Should I jump to AS 3.0 just because it sound cool...
Colin Moock as usual clears the confusion again. Here's what he says (in brief)
IF you do all your coding in AS 2.0,thenits best time to start learning AS 3.0
Reason:AS 3.0 is faster,cleaner,more powerful,easier to debug etc.
If you still add codes to frames on timeline, then you need not worry much about AS 3.0.
Reason: Even in AS 3.0 you can still add scripts to frames on timelines as you always did.But when you finally start to create swf exclusivly in FP9 format, you have to use and therefore learn the new Flash Player API.So it is better to start learning to get an edge.
If all you do is create animations and designs in Flash using timelines and donot use codes, then AS 3.0 means nothing to you.You should wait for Flash 9
Reason: what is AS 3.0?
If you want to become a Flash programmer learn the basics first.
Reason: Read the followings
ActionScript for Flash MX:The Definitive Guide by Colin Moock
ActionScript Cookbook by Joey Lott
Head First Java
Essentiall ActionScript by Colin Moock
Essential ActionScript 3.0 (Lynda Video tutorial)
Flex 2.0 The Definitive Guide by Colin Moock
ActionScript 3.0 Cookbook
By the time you have finished all of these You will be developing as a pro.
If you still work in AS 1.0 then it depends on you only.
